I just purchased a Kubota L3130HST with a 723A FEL. I also ordered the quick attach/detach for the bucket. During my first hour of operation, I found the HST tranny to be a little difficult at times to change gears, such as going from L TO M TO H. Is it normal to have to nudge the tractor a bit to get the tranny to slip into the next gear?
With this being my first Kubota and Diesel tractor, I'd appreciate any tips or information from you L3130HST owners or others that will make my tractor experience enjoyable. Thanks in Advance ---- Jim

I am negotiating the purchase of the same tractor. I noticed that on the on that I test drove the same problem and that you had to use the clutch and nudge it as you said. Those that have been operarting one for a while will have to clue us in on this matter. ....

yes. it is a geared transmission. see page 36 of your manual. dealer should have gone over this. ....

With 400+ hours on my L3130HST, the range shifting is a lot easier than when the machine was new, but occasionally is still 'sticky', especially in 4WD.
Here's some tricks I've found to make the changes as easy as possible.
1) Make sure you need to change ranges. If going from L to M or H, bring the machine to a stop with the brakes. If you're only going 2MPH in L, why change up?
2) Operate the engine in its power range 2000-2700 RPM, this generally leads to easy shifts.
3) When stopped, if you have trouble with a 'hard lever' releasing the brakes or moving the steering wheel a tad can let the gears move just enough to make the shift easy.
4) Don't shift while moving, and if you use the method on page 36 of your manual be sure to pause and let the gears stop before completing the shift. You may damage the gears otherwise.
5) Preselect your lower range. Shift to the proper lower range while you are still on a hard surface rather than waiting till the engine bogs down or the tractor is on soft(er) ground that restricts wheel movement. Wait until you are on hard(er) ground before shifting up.
My opinion is you almost NEVER need 4WD in H range, if you have a load or traction conditions require it, L or M range would give much safer operating speed, and be easier on the gear-train.

one thing that i found to work for most of the tractors with hydro is to push the range lever while you ever so slightly tap your hydro pedal, the gears will mesh and it will fall right in but unlike bliz suggestion you want to do this at a low idle. ....

What TNCHRIS said is absolutely correct. It actually states in the manual to "nudge" the hydro pedal if the range shifter seems stuck. Most of the time mine works fine, but if it's being a little difficult I just nudge the hydro pedal and it slides easily. ....
